Portugal won the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest! Where will next year's contest take place?



2017 Eurovision Song Contest finished on Saturday's night with the winning of Portugal represented by Salvador Sobral performing "Amar pelos dois" (Love for both of us) gaining 758 points breaking the record of Alexander Rybak.

Salvador Sobral was selected as the Portuguese participant for the contest in Festival de Canção 2017 in March. His winning entry could reach the top 3 in the betting odds just before the final and turned to be the hot favorite to win the contest.

He couldn't rehearse on stage in the first Eurovision week because of the health issues so did her sister who's the composer of the his song. Portugal hasn't been a successful country in the contest and hardly qualifies for the final in recent years. Salvador Sobral is now seen as a hero in Portugal after winning the contest for the first time.

The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has announced today that Lisbon will host the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in May. The venue for the festival is yet to be confirmed but Meo Arena is the most potential one:



MEO Arena (Lisbon, Portugal): It has 20.000 people for concert events. The venue is one of the biggest indoor arenas in the European Union and the biggest one in Portugal. It's built for Expo 1998 held in the city.
